There are all different kinds of enemies in Dr. Bounce, and the way you bounce your weapon of off them is unique to each enemy.

This enemy bounces your gun up into the air. To easily communicate this to the player, the concept artist and the rest of the team agreed on an arrow like shape pointing upwards.
